Travel to Moody Gardens aquarium

6:00 – 8:00

Field Trip to Moody Gardens aquarium, Caribbean tunnel for virtual fish ID survey

8:00 – 8:30

Head back to TAMU-Galveston.

8:30 – 9:00

Check into rooms for night.

NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary Program and the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS) – Shelley DuPuy

More about the FGBNMS, basic coral biology, flora and fauna of the banks. Activities: Edible corals, Coral feeding frenzy, etc. -Sarah Bernhardt

Lunch, Mexican Fajitas at Salsa’s Mexican Restaurant (5 minute walk)

Oil and Gas discussion – bp America representative

Lectures provided for elementary, middle and high school education, presented by DUOY alumni and classroom teachers Kim Rusk, J.R. Jones, and Bill Crowley (20 minutes each)

Field Trip to NMFS turtle center (Back up plan: Ocean Star Museum visit)

FGB RESEARCH Talk  (ROVs, monitoring, Stetson, Ron Brown Cruise, OE)

Threats and Issues facing the FGBNMS:  fisheries, water quality, etc. plus Watershed activity - Sarah Bernhardt.

Dinner – catered on site at Fort Crockett NMFS facility.

Discussion of diving safety, techniques, boat operations.  Sign up for guided dives with Sarah. Dive buddy teams pair up, discuss dive plans for first day with teams and DMs

Car pool to the M/V Fling in Freeport, TX.  Board the M/V Fling no earlier than 8:30pm, boat rule.

Fill out paperwork, show C-Cards to crew, settle into bunks, set up dive gear,

Boat safety and dive briefing from M/V Fling crew
