October 2009 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Gulf of Mexico Program (GMP)
announced recipients for its 2009 Gulf Guardian Awards. The
Gulf of Mexico Foundation (GMF) hosted the reception for the 2009 Gulf Guardian
Awards ceremony held in Biloxi, Mississippi, on October 29.
Two Gulf of Mexico Foundation programs received first place awards in two
categories. In the Business category, ConocoPhillips and the GMF won for their Marine
Workshops for Educators. In the Bi-National category, the
GMF's Science & Spanish Club
Network & Colegio Juvenal Rendon from Tamaulipas, Mexico, were
awarded first place.
The GMP partnership developed the Gulf Guardian Awards as a
way to
recognize and honor the businesses, community groups, individuals, and agencies that are taking positive steps to
keep the Gulf healthy, beautiful and productive. The Gulf Guardian Award exemplifies what the Gulf of Mexico Program is all about;
innovative solutions that come about when we pool resources and look for creative ways to positively impact our quality of
life and economic well being. Many companies, organizations, and individuals in the Gulf States
are "Gulf Guardians." The GMP partnership believes they should be awarded for their stewardship of this national
resource from which we all derive so much benefit.
The first Gulf Guardian Award winners were recognized in 2000. Every year since, a first, second and third place award
are given in seven categories: Business, Civic/Non-Profit Organization, Partnerships, Youth/Education, Individual, Government
and Bi-National. All 21 winners in seven different categories receive an impressive marble and glass memento, press coverage
on their project and recognition by their peers. All winners receive a professional video about their project and/or
effort that is presented on the evening of the Gulf Guardian Awards ceremony.

Funding to go towards Redfish Bay education efforts
April 2009
- Walmart in Aransas Pass, Texas, made a $1,000 Community Grants contribution in April to the Gulf of Mexico Foundation’s
Science &
Spanish Club Network (SSCN) for their Redfish Bay public education and outreach efforts.
Science & Spanish Clubs in Ingleside, Sinton, Aransas Pass and Corpus Christi

ConocoPhillips to sponsor GMF's
summer teacher workshops
Teachers to learn about coral reef and coastal habitats
March 18, 2021 -
The Gulf of Mexico Foundation has received a generous donation of $40,000 from
ConocoPhillips to sponsor the
Down Under Out Yonder
(DUOY) teacher’s coral reef ecology workshop and also the GMF's new
Intracoastal Waterway Wetlands
Cruise (IWWC), a coastal habitats ecology workshop for teachers.
ConocoPhillips is a multi-year sponsor of the DUOY program which is now in its 14th year. Overwhelming applicant response from
the first IWWC foretells
a great new future opportunity for teachers to learn more about waterways in the
Gulf of Mexico region. The GMF appreciates the support that ConocoPhillips provides to
education and outreach.
Gulf of Mexico Alliance asks for input
Participants asked to review document, take online survey
March 5, 2021 - The Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA)
has been operating on a three-year plan, which will be complete in March 2009. A draft Governors’ Action Plan II to cover the next five
years is now available for public comment. In an innovative way to manage the Gulf of Mexico's natural resources, GOMA is asking
participants to first review the PDF document, then complete the online questionnaire, which contains eight questions and should take between 10
and 20 minutes to complete. Both PDF and online survey are listed below.
