New habitat restoration funding available
Do you know of a marine restoration project that needs funding? The new "Request For Preproposals" is now available online for the 2005 NOAA Gulf of Mexico Community-based Restoration Program grant. This marks the fourth year the GMF has administered the program, funded by NOAA and the EPA's Gulf of Mexico Program. Read on.


GMF receives 2004 Gulf Guardian Award
The Gulf of Mexico Foundation won first place in the Civic/Nonprofit Organization category of the annual Gulf Guardian Awards presented by the EPA's Gulf of Mexico Program. Winners were announced in July and the awards will be given out during the Southern States Environmental Conference and Exhibition being held at the Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, September 21-23, 2004. Board of Directors hosts Houston reception
The Gulf of Mexico Foundation's Board of Directors hosted a reception for partners and industry representatives at the Petroleum Club in Houston on June 8. The event, which included buffet and beverages, gave those involved a chance to visit, exchange ideas and learn more about the GMF.


Foundation helps fund 'Living Waters' documentary
The Gulf of Mexico Foundation contributed financial support to the production of a new one-hour-long, 16mm film documentary entitled, "Living Waters: Aquatic Preserves of Florida." The artistically photographed, educational film highlights 12 of the 41 aquatic preserves along Florida's 8,500 miles of coastline which were set aside for protection by the state in 1966. Read on.


Dive workshop draws 18 teachers
In partnership with the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, the Gulf of Mexico Foundation sponsored the ninth annual "Down Under, Out Yonder" dive workshop this summer, bringing 18 teachers to Galveston, Texas, July 10-14. The program began with lectures on fish identification, coral reef ecology, offshore energy production and the NMS program. The classroom portion of the trip was followed by three days at sea scuba diving the Flower Garden Banks NMS. Read on.

Bobbi Reed is a new employee at the Gulf of Mexico Foundation, working on special projects, government contracts, and as program assistant to the executive director of the Foundation. Read on.
