IWWC dates: June 14-18, 2010
TRIP CANCELLED
The Gulf of Mexico Foundation’s Intracoastal Waterway Wetlands Cruise (IWWC) is a four-day workshop that takes place aboard the M/V Fling,
a 100-foot live-aboard operated by
Fling Charters. This workshop will educate participants on coastal habitats and issues facing the Gulf
Coast and its inhabitants.
Now in its second year, the Intracoastal Waterway
Wetlands Cruise will take place June 14-18, 2010. Spaces will begin booking in January.
The IWWC workshop is sponsored by the Gulf of Mexico Foundation for
K-12 and college entry educators, nationwide. ConocoPhillips is also a
major sponsor. The cruise will begin in Freeport, Texas (near
Galveston) and travel along the Intracoastal Waterway towards New
Orleans, Louisiana.
Along the way, participants will explore coastal habitats and issues.
The workshop curriculum will involve many “hands-on” opportunities,
allowing for a better understanding of the local environment.
Naturalists and other authorities will be on board throughout the
cruise to discuss coastal issues.
Educators of all levels will walk away from the workshop experience
with the means to actively involve their students in the learning
process, to expose them to coastal ecology, and to share personal
experiences about living and working on the Gulf Coast.
Through providing educators with this hands-on field experience, the
Gulf of Mexico Foundation hopes to encourage interest in and
conservation of these important habitats.
