Dr. Gregory Simmons is Vice President Deepwater Gulf of Mexico for Devon Energy. Dr. Simmons has more than 25 years of energy industry experience and with an emphasis on deepwater exploration along the North and South Atlantic continental margins. Prior to joining Devon he worked with Ocean Energy, Seagull Energy, Exxon Exploration, Exxon Production and Research. Dr. Simmons received his B.S. and M.S. in Geology from Oklahoma State University, and his Ph.D. in Geophysical Oceanography from Texas A&M University (TAMU). His dissertation and expertise involves tectonics and deepwater sedimentary processes of salt-cored continental margins. His interests extend to shallow water as well. He is an avid kayaker throughout the Texas bays. His interests include the proper balance between coastal economic sustainability, resource utilization, and environmental protection/preservation. He is committed to education throughout the community, from public education at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, to primary school education through Communities in School – Houston Independent School District, to higher education as a member (former chairman) of the Oklahoma State University Geology Advisor Board.
