The Gulf of Mexico Foundation, a nonprofit corporation based in Corpus
Christi, Texas, was founded in 1990 by citizens concerned
with the health and productivity of the Gulf of Mexico.
Representing a wide range of interests (agriculture, business, fisheries, industry,
tourism, and the environment), we work to promote and fund research, education, and conservation
programs. Our focus encompasses all areas that border the Gulf – Texas, Louisiana,
Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Mexico, Cuba, and the adjacent Caribbean.
The future of the Gulf of Mexico, North America's most economically productive body of
water, is a shared responsibility. We believe that only through unified efforts can we protect this
precious resource.

Restoring lagoon at La Pesca is mixed bag

LA PESCA, Mexico - July 21, 2008 - In late fall, the nortes blow a thin layer of salty water over the mud flats of the Laguna Madre Sur,
bringing to life what seems deceptively like an ashen wasteland much of the year. Half a million aquatic birds follow the wind and water to the lagoon.
They use it to winter or feed while migrating south. It's considered one of the most important wetlands in Mexico. This year the birds will have to share the lagoon
with excavators and other diesel-guzzling machinery. What the earth-moving machinery is doing in a government-designated Natural Protected Area, not everyone agrees.
2009 Community-based Restoration Program

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - July 2008 - The NOAA
Community-Based Restoration Program administered by the Gulf of Mexico
Foundation provides funding for on-the-ground restoration projects,
technical expertise in implementing
the projects and valuable experience in promoting and managing locally
driven restoration activities. Funding for 2009 is now available.
Deadline for submissions is August 6.
