To ensure the sustainability and productivity of the Gulf for generations to come, the Gulf of Mexico Foundation took on a leading role in coordinating the activities of the Habitat Resources Team (HRT) from its inception through 2014. The Foundation remains active on the Steering Committee and coordinates projects on its behalf.
The Team is composed of representatives from the five Gulf States, federal agencies (including NOAA, EPA, the Corps of Engineers, Fish and Wildlife Service) non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and other vested interests in the Gulf of Mexico.PHOTO: HRT state lead from Mississippi Dept of Marine Resources, George Ramseur, left, joins a community conservation group in Veracruz, Mexico, on a tour of mangrove habitat facing environmental challenges.
Below is a list of the individual projects that have been implemented by the Team in accordance with the Governor’s Action Plan, a living document now in its third edition.
NOTE: “HCRT”, seen throughout the project pages listed below, stands for the Habitat Conservation & Restoration Team, the name of the HRT prior to the reorganization implemented in developing the Governor’s Action Plan III.
