Project Title: Analysis and Recommendations for Increasing Restoration and Conservation on Private Lands
A national organization that serves land trusts around the nation, the Land Trust Alliance (LTA), was engaged to facilitate a stakeholder-based analysis of policies, programs and need with regard to habitat conservation, protection and restoration on privately-held lands.
Bringing this new partner into this effort and into the GOMA fold was a great step in advancing the HCRT private lands subaction. A small stakeholder workshop held in November 2010 and a survey of Gulf land trusts aided the development of a broad-based survey with substantial input from the HCRT. Key entities working with private landowners in each of the five states were asked to respond. The study yielded a robust set of recommendations from the broad range of professionals who participated.
Out of the workshop a partnership was born to support land trusts in the Gulf of Mexico region. Functioning as part of the LTA family, the Partnership for Gulf Coast Land Conservation has grown into a dynamic organization and remains actively engaged with the HCRT and others in the Gulf of Mexico Region.
